The Lord Mayor and joint deputy council leader David Hopkins attended the service at the Cenotaph, while deputy Lord Mayor Cllr Graham Thomas and joint deputy leader, Cllr Andrea Lewis represented the people of Swansea at Silence in the Square. The National Two Minute Silence was also observed at Swansea Market and by Swansea Council staff and visitors in civic buildings around the city. The occasion was one of a number of events taking place across Swansea as part of November 11 commemorations, including Silence in the Square and a service at the civic Cenotaph on the seafront. To mark Remembrance Day, Great Western Railway organised a Poppies to Paddington operation that saw wreaths sent from towns and cities across its network to be laid at the war memorial on Platform 1 at Paddington Station.Ĭivic dignitaries including the Lord Mayor of Swansea Mike Day, joint deputy Leader David Hopkins, the council's Armed Forces Champion Wendy Lewis, the Lord Lieutenant of West Glamorgan Louise Fleet and Regional Chairman of the Royal British Legion Philip Flower and representatives from the forces handed over the wreaths at Swansea Station.
